Alnwick Castle and Gardens.
Alnwick Castle is a foreboding medieval castle with stunning State Rooms which contain fine furniture and paintings by Canaletto, Van Dyck and Titian. The Alnwick Gardens are one of the most unusual and spectacular public gardens of the 21st Century. Set within a secretive walled garden, its centrepiece, The Grand Cascade, is the largest water feature of its kind in the country.
Holy Island of Lindisfarne
Lindisfarne is internationally famous both for its medieval religious heritage and its more recent 16th century castle. These, together with most of the community, are located on the Southern part of the island - the main focus for tourists. Many are also attracted by the peace and tranquility which pervades the Island and the remote Northern conservation area, with more than its fair share of quiet beaches and unique natural history.
Chillingham Castle and Wild Cattle.
2 minutes from Chatton, Chillingham is reputed to be the most haunted castle in England. The Wild Cattle are truly unique and roam free in Chillingham Park where they have survived for 700 years.
The Cheviots, Walking, Fishing and Cycling.
A haven for hillwalkers, The Cheviots are easily accessible from Chatton and provide spectacular views across the countryside. The Percy Arms is a Member of both the Walkers and Cyclists Welcome schemes and a large number of maps etc are available for guest use. Locked cycle storage is provided free of charge. For the angler, as mentioned earlier, The Percy Arms can provide fishing permits for the River Till.
Beaches and The Coast.
There are many beautiful award winning sandy beaches within easy driving distance from Chatton. Beadnell Bay, Bamburgh and Seahouses all have similarly sandy beaches and it is easily possible to walk via the seaside between all three locations.
The Farne Islands
The Farne Islands are best known for their Christian associations but nowadays are visited more for their wildlife. As well as being the most famous Sea Bird Sanctuary in the British Isles they also have a large colony of Atlantic or Grey Seals.
Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh Castle is possibly the finest castle in England. It is perched on a basalt outcrop on the very edge of the North Sea and commands stunning views of the Farne Islands, Holy Island and landward to the Cheviot Hills.
Berwick-Upon-Tweed
The most northerly town in England, no other town has had a more eventful history than Berwick. There is no doubt it can claim the distinction of being "the Border Town", as it has changed hands between England and Scotland no fewer than thirteen times. Berwick is the nearest mainline railway station to Chatton.
Edinburgh and Newcastle
The Scottish capital is just over an hour from Chatton with the city of Newcastle, Gateshead and the Metrocentre being roughly a 50 minute drive away as is Newcastle International Airport.
